BRAND: Audio Research
SERIES: Reference 7
TYPE: Line-Stage Preamplifier
OVERVIEW
The Audio Research Reference 7 is a new-generation line-stage preamplifier developed from the same ground-up platform as the flagship Reference 20. Rather than refining an existing design, it brings the company’s latest engineering advances into a more accessible reference preamplifier, with a clear focus on purity, precision and musical realism.
Designed to reveal fine detail while preserving the natural flow and texture of music, the Reference 7 delivers exceptional clarity, dimensionality and dynamic expression. Its presentation remains coherent and engaging, allowing every recording to sound vivid, spacious and emotionally convincing.

Advanced Engineering and Musical Performance
The Reference 7 shares the advanced mechanical architecture developed for the flagship Reference 20. Its multi-metal layered chassis manages resonance through controlled energy distribution, while custom suspended, mass-loaded circuit boards help isolate the signal path from unwanted vibration. Together, these technologies preserve low-level information and enhance transparency, spatial definition and sonic presence.
Solid-state power-supply regulation contributes to an exceptionally low noise floor and improved long-term stability, while reference-grade output coupling capacitors derived from the flagship platform help maintain signal purity throughout. The Reference 7 reveals exceptional detail without compromising musical coherence, natural texture or dynamic expression—bringing each performance to life with clarity, depth and emotional realism.
